FAIR USE Derik

Fair Use happens to be important to documentary makers because they are able to create their own image or put a unique spin on another image and portray it to a specific audience to captivate them. The only bad thing is not knowing whether or not it was created purely for profit or to show the creator's creativity and talents. It's also important because part of a successful documentary is the adrenaline rush that reaches the audience creating a feeling as if it happened in their own backyard. In regards to my own production I was thinking beforehand of making a more complicated mash up involving Martin Luther King Jr. trying to leave the seriousness of what he did, but use images that children would understand to show his legacy. I was introduced to MLK at a young age and wish I had understood what he stood for much sooner. So with using other images another example would be many videos on you tube or even videos created on facebook or myspace that take something boring or irrelevant and make it relatable to our lives thus making it a major hit. Taking any piece of a video like that and putting my views towards it to stimulate an audience could be used in a film. Here's a link to a slightly humorous mash up involving soccer mishaps www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYJ38L16qMM.
