My experience when using Wikipedia has been very helpful at times and at other times not so helpful. When using Wiki the most I have used it for is for research, not major research projects, but just to answer a small question I may have.
In the shared economy Lessig and Schiff describes, Wikipedia expertise due to the fact that anyone can edit Wiki and make it so much better. Also people can also add their own material, which is a great example of new undeveloped information.
People share and give up their own time to make people aware of what is around them. They share the information for all kinds of reasons, most of the time they share it because they feel strongly about the topic and they believe it could help someone in the long run.
No, I do not share it online, but I may share it in person if the subject came up.
